Toni and Paco de la Rosa Torelló with the new corpinnat sparkling wine Torelló 2 vintages Brut Nature 2018 2019

The Torelló 2a (2 vintages) 18/19 Brut Nature is a singular limited edition that expresses the cellar’s desire to experiment different ways of making a sparkling wine. With this, Torelló is initiating a Microvinification project searching for new sensations in productions of small quantities, be they sparkling wines or still.

In this case it is a corpinnat made from a base wine from two different vintages, the 2018 (60%) and the 2019 (40%), of organic grapes from our own Can Martí Estate of the following varieties: Xarel.lo (43%), Macabeu (31%) and Parellada (26%).

Climatology

The 2018 and 2019 vintages are very different:

  • 2018 – is remembered as a rainy year, in each of the four seasons, that brought a delay of 10 days in the harvest with respect to the last few years, and in which the rainfall on the estate was 822 litres per square metre.
  • 2019 – is and will be remembered as “one of the best of the last few years” in the words of Paco de la Rosa Torelló. It was, in general, a dry year, with two very intense heatwaves in the summer and some rains at the end of July, in August and at the beginning of September which were very welcome on the estate.

Aging

The bottling was done in February 2020 and, for this reason, it is a corpinnat with a minimum of 42 months of aging and is a Brut Nature without the addition of sugars after the disgorging.

Tasting note

  • Visual phase: clean, presents a golden yellow colour of middle intensity, constant emission of very fine bubbles.
  • Olfactive phase: on the nose it is intense and complex, in a first attack it presents aromas of mature white fruit like pear and citrics like grapefruit. Later toasted notes appear proceeding from the long aging.
  • Tasting phase: dry, structured and very balanced, with good acidity, fine and elegant bitter notes stand out which blend with hints of Mediterranean herbs so characteristic of the Can Martí estate.

Pairing

Given that it is an intense, complex corpinnat, it is better indicated to accompany it with food, from prepared tapas to stewed meats or baked fish: In short, it is very gastronomic.
