El vi blanc D.O. Penedès de Torelló Blanc Tranquille compleix 70 anys

At Torelló we have been making bottled white wine uninterruptedly since 1954 from vines on our Can Martí Estate in Gelida (Alt Penedès- Barcelona). Today, and after 70 harvests, this white wine is what we know as Blanc Tranquille, made for the first time by our grandparents Francesc Torelló and Josefa Llopart, 21st generation of the Can Martí country house and estate.

In 1958 we received our first prize at an exhibition fair for white wine from the Wine Museum in Vilafranca del Penedès, capital of our region. Blanc Tranquille has always been a fresh, light, and fruity white wine, these are its attributes, conceived to be drunk in the same year. At the beginning, it was a monovarietal Macabeu and progressively Xarel.lo and Parellada were added.

Since 1973 Torelló appears inscribed in the DO Penedès, as no. 26 in the winemaking section of the cellar register, thus being one of the oldest cellars registered. These days, Torelló makes 5 different white wines, 2 rosés and one red.

At the end of the 80s came the first exports, Japan being the final destination of the first international dispatches. Today, you can also find Blanc Tranquille in different countries like France, Belgium, Andorra, Holland Canada or Russia.

In 2016 our estate, vines and centenary olive trees obtained organic certification as did also the wines made, under a process that we initiated in 2013, and which confirms that one of the priorities of the estate and the cellar is the road towards sustainability and the care of the environment.

Currently Blanc Tranquille, as well as being an ecological wine, incorporates the variety Muscat into the blend of Xarel.lo, Macabeu and Parellada, all hand harvested. It is white, the colour of new gold, clean and brilliant with yellowy-green highlights. In the nose, it has a delicate aromatic intensity, fresh and full of life, with memories of white flowers, peaches and herbs like fennel and flowers of the field. On the palate it is pleasant, light and reproduces those fennel notes. It is a wine that is made for spring and summer to accompany an aperitive or an al fresco dinner. It pairs very well with all types of rice dishes, summer salads, seafood and grilled fish.

Torelló also has made long aged vinified sparkling wines on the property since 1951 and continues to do so today, now under the collective Corpinnat brand. The Torelló Corpinnats and wines are made with high standards and passion. The Can Martí Estate has belonged to the Torelló family since 1395 (14th century) and occupies 135 hectares, 80 of those planted with 11 different varieties of grape.
