Torelló achieves excellent scores on the Parker list
Thursday 16th of may of 2024, Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker’s taster of Spanish wines, published his article on Catalan wines “Spain: Cataluña – The Dry Years”. And with his report, he also included the scores for the wines for which all the cellars were waiting. At Torelló we are very satisfied and proud of the results obtained, the 8 wines and corpinnats tasted achieved between 90 and 95 points.
The wines scored between 90 and 95 points are considered by the guide as “superb, complex, elegant, attractive, delicious…”
These are the scores:
The Torelló Collection Brut Nature 2012 stands out with 95 points, and Luis Gutiérrez says:
“The 2012 Collection Brut Nature was produced with the three classical grapes from Penedès from a vintage they consider historic in the zone. So, they kept the bottles with lees for at least 10 years. The bottles were shaken (poignetagge) yearly to put the lees into suspension again. The wine is rich, nuanced and aged but still lively and with abundant if small bubbles. It has complexity, notes of lees, smoke and toasted bread, with dry flowers, pollen and beeswax. It’s creamy and dry, with a chalky sensation in the finish. There are 960 bottles and 50 magnums. It was disgorged in January 2024.”
The Gran Torelló Brut Nature 2016 also achieves 94 points:
“The nose of the 2016 Gran Torelló Brut Nature was like entering a bakery with aromas of freshly baked brioche, bread dough, toasted bread and a mixture of flowers, herbs and white fruit. It’s attractive, clean and elegant, with a balanced palate and very fine bubbles from the over 80 months the wine spent with lees in bottles closed with natural cork after re-fermenting. It’s complex and delicious. It was produced with a blend of 48% Xarel.lo, 47% Macabeo and 5% Parellada from a dry but very healthy harvest. 9,800 bottles were produced.”
Finally, the Torelló 225 Enoteca Brut Nature 2013 with 93+ points:
“The recent disgorgement of the older 225 that’s for sale now is the 2013 225 Enoteca Brut Nature, from a wet and cooler year. It matured sur lie in bottle for over nine years, and the bottle was kept at least one more year after being disgorged. This is a blend of 50% Xarel.lo, fermented and matured for three months in 225-liter oak barrels, 29% Macabeo and 21% Parellada. It has notes of evolution, balsamic, reminiscent of camphor and herbs, with a yeasty hint and a touch of smoke. The palate reveals small bubbles that give it texture. It’s dry, chalky and tasty. There are 750 bottles”.
