50th anniversary Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature

Fifty years ago, in 1976, Francesc Torelló started to make Brut Nature sparkling wine. Until then, Torelló, and since 1951, had only made Brut and Semi-dry. In those days we said it was sparkling wine, and even champagne, and afterwards we were called Cava but now we are Corpinnat. Today, for this Brut Nature we are naming it Torelló Traditional because there is only one Torelló, that which was born on the same estate decades ago and because it is made with the traditional white Penedès varieties. The Traditional Brut Nature is the Torelló icon, that which represents the style of the cellar.

Torelló Traditional Brut Nature was born in 1976 in the heart of the Penedès, in Can Martí, Gelida, the estate that the same family has cultivated for six hundred and thirty years and 22 generations. From the first day it has been made with the grapes from the three traditional Penedès varieties: macabeo, xarel.lo and parellada, planted all around the Can Martí masia (country house), harvested by hand and quickly transported to the cellar for pressing. In 2013 the Can Martí estate started its transformation to ecological cultivation, a process that culminated in in 2016 with the award of the CCPAE (Catalan Council of Ecological Agrarian Production) certification.

Torelló Traditional is a brut nature without the addition of sugars, from the beginning, and is an example of radically dry sparkling wines. It is a long aged sparkling wine, complex and elegant, with a creamy bubble, with toasty and dry fruit notes and a long aftertaste, being a very gastronomic Corpinnat. Throughout the years it has been recognised with numerous distinctions in guides and domestic and international competitions such as Decanter Gold Medal, Gilbert and Gaillard, International Wine Challenge, Brussels Competition, Winner of the International Wine Competition Spanish Sparkling Wine Trophy, Best Sparkling wine in guides like Vivir el Vino and Gourmets Guide, and year after year excellent scores in guides like Wine Advocate-Parker, Wine Enthusiast Peñin, Catalunya Wines Guide, La Semana Vitivinícola Guide. Today, Torelló Traditional Brut Nature can be found in more than 25 countries on 4 continents.
