Awarding of the Creu de Sant Jordi to Ernestina Torelló
“Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces for changing society. To acknowledge, with honesty, the merits of others is a sign of a country that is self-confident, hopeful, intelligent and, at the same time, humble. Each year, the Creu de Sant Jordi represents a profound gesture of gratitude and recognition towards individuals and organisations that have contributed, and continue to contribute, to making a better Catalonia.”
This is how the Right Honourable Mr Salvador Illa, President of the Government of Catalonia, opens the introduction to the booklet of the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026, published for the occasion.
The award ceremony, held in the impressive Oval Hall of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, was both solemn and deeply moving, attended by the President of the Parliament, a large part of the Government, and former Presidents of Catalonia. The reasons for which I received this distinction were read out, and the award was presented by President Illa himself.
As I receive this distinction in recognition of my business career linked to the wine sector, and my contribution to the projection and prestige of the country’s wines and sparkling wines, I would like to share it with my family, with the generations that came before me and those that will follow. I would also like to share it with the entire Torelló team, who are, ultimately, part of the estate, the manor house and the winery of Finca Can Martí.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the other individuals and organisations honoured with the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026.
Ernestina Torelló
