Ernestina Torelló, president of the cellar Torelló Viticultors, will receive the Cross of St. George in an act that will take place on 21st of April at MNAC, Barcelona.

Ernestina Torelló, aged 83, is still active on the Estate, Country House and Winery in Gelida. She will receive the Cross of St. George “For her business trajectory connected to the winegrowing sector and her contribution to the projection and prestige of the country’s still and sparkling wines. A businesswoman related to the historic family winery Torelló Viticultors, she has contributed to the development and consolidation of this winegrowing project in the Penedès, basing it on
quality, innovation, sustainability and the international projection of her products.”

She also stands out in that “Her work has helped to reinforce the recognition of Catalan sparkling and still wines around the world. The cellar and the family’s trajectory have been recognised by different international awards and distinctions in the winegrowing sector for the excellence of their products and the continuity of her project.”

The Cross of St. George is one of the highest recognitions that can be received from the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Autonomous Government). Created in 1981, it recognises the merits of individuals or collectives that have given outstanding service to Catalunya in the defence of its identity or in a civic and cultural sphere.
