Torelló Finca Can Martí incorporates Red Grenache in its coupage

Finca Can Martí Grenache 2019
Finca Can Martí is a corpinnat that pays tribute to the vines where Torelló sparkling wines are born, and which the same family has been cultivating for 630 years in Gelida, Alt Penedès. That is why you can see on the label illustrations of some of the mammals, reptiles, insects, birds or plants that can be found on our estate.
But the Can Martí Estate today is also a tribute to the indigenous Mediterranean varieties like Macabeo and Red Grenache which are the two that form part of the coupage. The Macabeo produces base wines with floral notes, refined and elegant, that have a great aging capacity for sparkling wines. The Red Grenache is a very versatile variety and for this corpinnat we have vinified it as a white wine. It gives smooth wines with red fruit notes. Both are planted in the estate’s argillocalcareous soil, using organic cultivation and are hand-harvested. 2019 was a generally dry year, with two heatwaves in summer and welcome rains towards the end of July and August. The base wines presented good acidity which allowed us to elaborate long-aged sparkling wines like this one. It is aged for a minimum of 6 years for the second fermentation and in contact with the yeasts and is a brut with a small addition (3.5g per litre) of expedition liqueur.
With a lemon-yellow colour and an amber tonality, this corpinnat is an expression of precision craftmanship where the vinification of the red grenache as white wine holds hands with the Mediterranean freshness of the macabeo. On the nose it shows a fascinating, clean complexity, the macabeo bringing citric freshness and green apples, while the red grenache adds notes of stone fruits and a delicate floral essence. It is a vibrant nose, where the purity of the fruit is the absolute protagonist. In evolution, the toasted notes of long aging appear. In the mouth it has the attack, fresh and live, of a great sparkling wine, but the red grenache gives it a structure and silkiness that make it unique. It is a wine with volume, capable of filling the palate with a very fine, integrated bubble. The calcareous minerality of our Can Martí estate appears at the end, bringing longitude and a very elegant touch of salt.
